Free WordPress Captcha Spam Blocker Plugin

It’s an obvious truth that wordpress blogs are targets for comment spamming. I am always on the lookout for new plugins or WordPress Spam Blockers, especially those that can help me to moderate less and enjoy the simplicity of allowing my blog to do all of the work. This is especially important when figuring out how to block spam from my blog comments area and using free spam blockers.

How to Block Spam from Your WordPress Blog

Although we like to make commenting on our blogs more frequent and efficient for our visitors, sometimes it’s necessary to add a captcha field to the comment area of our blogs. The problem is, we don’t want our frequent visitors to have to use the captcha form every time they would like to leave a comment. What’s cool about this is, the plugin I found uses the famous Re-Captcha developed by Carnegie Mellon University and really is inobtrusive to my readers. Here’s why:

The Simple Spam Filter by TanTanNoodles only shows the Captcha form when a comment is potentially a spam based comment. With other captcha forms, you would likely see the field every time someone is looking to comment and it can interfere with the comment form at the bottom of your word press blog. Basically, when someone is leaving a legitimate comment and there are not too many spam filtering variables in the text they have typed in the comment field, the captcha form will not appear. But for all of those blog comment spammers out there, the captcha will appear and all of the blog comment auto submission softwares will not be able to penetrate the system. WordPress Trackback Spam is No More!

What an awesome little tool for stopping wordpress trackback spam, saving you from knowing how to block spam and by far one of the best free spam blockers I’ve seen in quite some time. There is only one reason why this plugin will not work for you and that is simply if you do not install it. It’s not going to block all of the spam from your blog comment area, but it is a great Free WordPress Spam Blocker and a perfect Re-Captcha Plugin for WordPress Blog Comment areas.

The captcha requirement sounds like a good solution to boost my defense against the spammers. It was something I thought about adding in the past, but forgot to do.

Akismet and BadBehavior have been doing a fairly good job, but I needed that extra edge so I see even less in the spam folder! Imagine how wonderful a place the Internet would be if we didn’t have to fight an on-going spam and hacker war!

Thanks for the tip about the captcha plugin. It served well as a good reminder. :)
